The steel bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the Houten bypass was designed by tlu landscape architects. This bridge is a link in an important cycle route between Houten (Vinex neighborhoods) and the countryside. The cycle route starts in the center of the old Houten, leads through a number of neighborhoods, past Park Schoneveld, along the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal into the landscape. The design of the bridge is inspired by its location in the surrounding landscape. A graceful link between city and landscape, with a nod to the large half-timbered bridges that cross the Amsterdam Rhine Canal. The bridge is approximately 90 meters long and has 4 support points. The construction is based on traditional half-timbering, but by adding extra connections in the timber-frame, a web of steel lines has been created. By opting for timber framing, it is possible to make spans of 22 meters. The asymmetry of the bridge arose both on the difference in length and on the difference in ground level between the city and landscape side. The bridge is lit in two ways. Energy-efficient LED lighting reacts to movement, its strength is increased as soon as someone enters the bridge. The pillars are lit from below, making the bridge appear to float. Next to the large bridge there are two small bridges to make short connections to the bus stop on the Rondweg. |
