The Oudegracht is the most famous canal in Utrecht. The approximately two kilometer long canal is the connection between the Kromme Rijn and the Vecht. It cuts through the entire city center from south to north. For centuries it has been the main artery of the city. The system of wharves and wharf cellars of the Utrecht Oude- and Nieuwegracht is unique in the world. The complex dates from the early 12th century.
